Nearby Zihuatanejo & Playa Linda

Zihuatanejo was notably mentioned in the 1994 film The Shawshank Redemption. The town spent most of it's history as a fishing village and has managed to keep its traditional old town feel, while growing into a bustling city. Zihua is a short cab or public transportation bus ride (5 kilometers/3 miles) from Ixtapa, and is located on a well-protected bay which is popular with private boat owners and makes for great swimming at any of the beaches: Playa Principal, Playa Madera, Playa LaRopa, Playa Las Gatas. The brick-paved "fisherman's walk," a nod to the region's seafaring roots, stretches along the town center, showcasing the work of local artisans. Because the nightlife is mostly informal, Zihua is particularly appealing to couples and those seeking an escape from coastal party towns. The Centro area hosts a lively Sunday evening family festival, with art exhibits at the nearby museum. There are many dining opportunities, from fine dining to street food.

Don't miss the Ayotlcalli Sea Turtle Rescue & Conservation center for a baby turtle release (seasonal).
